Water on moon!

Right from the time when man first set foot on the moon's surface and brought back pieces of it to earth, scientists were convinced that the surface of earth's natural satellite was bone dry. All this changed today when new observations from three different spacecraft proved that water exists on and across the surface of the moon. The lunar surface is said to be drier than any desert on Earth, but water is said to exist in very small quantities on the moon. Researches say that a ton of the moon's surface would contain nearly thirty two(32) ounces of H2O.

The findings show that the moon hydrated due to changes that have come about on a daily basis. Scientists and researchers say that the sun might also have something to do with how the water got there. The moon is believed to contain potentially two different types of water. One that originated on it's very surface and the other to have come from outside objects. Even as the discovery of water take us one step closer to the environment, the earth's natural satellite still remains a mystery. With the exponential growth that technology is achieving today, all mysteries of the moon will be revealed in the near future.

Teaching can be fun

I was teaching a very basic class in programming to a group of people.Adults who have never been around computers before are very nervous and much harder to teach than children, however I am a patient person so I enjoy their successes. However, I must share the following:After putting a short program on the board,I told the students to type "R,""U,""N"and press return to see the program execute.A hand went up in the back of the room, waving to get my attention, and the person attached to the hand said, "I did what you said and it didn't work." Knowing full-well that all of us make mistakes when typing at the computer, I suggested she retype "R," "U," "N" and press return. A few seconds later, the lady's hand goes up again. "It still doesn't work," she said. So... I went back to see what the problem was ... only to find that instead of typing RUN, she had typed in the following: ARE YOU IN!

Don't waste you money on this

I was so much awestruck by sega's classic tennis game "virtua tennis 3". Everything about the game was perfect. The game was undoubtedly the best of its genre. Just when I thought pc gaming can't get any better than this, sega announced the release of "virtua tennis 2009". I was elated after hearing this news. I thought pc tennis is going to reach a super new level when virtua tennis 2009 hits the market. To my horror and disappointment, virtua tennis 2009 was pathetically lame and lacked soul. I think the game was released without even being tested.

The game was flawed to a great extent. The game hangs when trying to play online. There is no way to skip the annoying replays. This bug really make me mad. The replay takes twice as long as the point itself. The world tour couldn't have been messed up than this. A tournament victory consisting of 5 matches increases the ranking by just 3 or 4. Just imagine how long it will take to raise from rank 100 to 1 as amateur and from rank 150 to 1 turning pro. The in game English is also poor. I think the game developers let a kindergarten kid to do the in game dialogs and scenarios. On the whole, this game is a waste of money.

Life is how you take it

I was pretty much killing my time yesterday till afternoon as I had no real work to take care of. Then the fun started. It was only when I tried to call my friend over to my house, I realized that my cell phone was missing. I usually keep my mobile in silent mode and that didn't do me any good. I searched in all regular places I used to keep my cell phone in. All efforts ended in vain as my mobile was nowhere to be found. I later found it after two full hours of search. It was actually in my night pyjama's pocket. All the vigorous searching made my body metabolism to increase and suddenly, I became very active(very unlikely of me). I decided to take a walk around the near by park. The climate was cool and the occasional breeze was soothing. The walk was pleasant and it made my heart feel very light. I stayed in the park for three hours! I didn't even realize three hours have passed by until I looked at my watch. I then decided to head back home. The night sky was clear and was star studded. I was sky gazing for sometime and then decided to sleep. All things in life seem beautiful when you enjoying doing whatever you do. This is what I learnt yesterday.

Flickr gallery

The site flickr.com added a cool feature. The new feature that I'm talking about is gallery. It is used to showcase photos and this time it's not just your own snaps. Flickr galleries allows it's members to assemble up to a maximum of eighteen photos. The main reason for flickr's restriction to the number of photos is because it wants to emphasize quality and not quantity. Although the gallery is good for sharing photos with others, it is not that brilliant for arranging multiple member's photos from group events like photos of a family vacation or photos of attendees of a wedding.

Also flickr's link tags that is used to tag photos from multiple users doesn't offer a great deal of control on the way it's presented. Moreover, it is also prone to problems like the same tag being used by various other people. Also there is a slight security issue too. Well, it's more of a privacy issue than a security issue. Members might have concerns about having his or her photos included in somebody else's gallery. To counter this, flickr gallery has a mechanism that allows a member to keep his or her photos out of galleries. Let's see how well flickr galleries reach out to it's members.

ICC Champions Trophy 2009

Today is the inauguration of the ICC champion's trophy 2009. Expectations are as high as it can be in all parts of the world. All the eight teams coming into this competition are world class performers. With each nation hoping for their team to lift the trophy, emotions and expectations are running high. The tournament is set to happen over a ten day period. The tournament format is not knockout this time but it's the old fashioned group match, semis and the grand finals. The eight teams have been put in two groups with 4 teams per group. India, Australia, Pakistan and West Indies are in group A while South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and England are in group B.

The defending champs, Aussies come into this competition as favorites. The others teams too have great chances of lifting the trophy. South Africa are coming into this competition on a high. India come into this competition after wining the finals against Sri Lanka last week. The confidence is sky high in the remaining teams too. With all this, it's really hard to pick a winner. As the adage goes, "Cricket is a funny game", "You never win until the last ball is bowled. Will there be a new champion this time? Will there be any controversy? Will there be new records set? All this will be answered in the weeks to come. Just wait for it to unwind.
